Another Encouraging Meeting
We had another encouraging meeting with the design build team this week. We reviewed the drawings reflecting proposed changes for accomplishing our phase 1 goals within our current budget constraints. One concession we have made is to eliminate raising of the roof in the auditorium. But we are pleased that we have gained a slightly larger auditorium and a larger stage which will greatly increase the functionality of the space. The team has identified alternative ways of constructing the stairs that will not only decrease our costs but will also lessen disruption for our first floor tenant. Overall we are very happy with the proposed design changes because we believe they will fit within our budget and still give us the functionality we need! The team is aiming to finalize all the modified drawings (floor plans, structural, and mechanical) by the end of the month. If all goes well we will sign a contract very shortly. Check out Kascon our general contractor and Waldon Studios our architect.

We've waited to see tangible progress toward having a meeting place of our own, so this is gratifying. I'll offer this suggestion, that we replace the present sign on Firstfield Rd. with one that is visibly like a church, a 'model' church, if you will.
ReplyDeleteI think this is essential to our success as a church because our building looks like what it is: an office building in a street of office buildings. Even after remodeling and raising the roof, it will still be easily confused with its secular neighbors. That it is a church will be invisible to those who pass by. The white tent made us visible one summer, and I believe people started to attend because of it.
I was a member of a start-up church that also met in an invisible location. It dwindled and failed. That is what brought me to Seneca Creek (happy day).
I envision a brick sign with a white spire, but people with more artistic sense than I can no doubt do better.
Thanks for the suggestion. You have made an excellent point!
